We also explore upcoming events in the area, such as the middle year campus tours at Mill Park Secondary College and a Fleetwood Mac cover band performance at the Plenty Ranges Arts and Convention Centre. I emphasise the importance of keeping this podcast community-focused and free from political discourse, aiming to connect residents and foster a sense of unity. Additionally, I introduce the value-for-value model, encouraging listeners to contribute through time, talent, or treasure to support this community resource. Join me as we continue to build a connected and informed Mill Park community.

Good morning, Mill Park, and thank you for joining me here on this, episode five of the Mill Park podcast. My name is Cameron. I’m the host of this. I’m a, say, long term Mill Park resident. Been here five five years now. Moved down from Queensland and, must say moving into the era. Haven’t looked back. And in all honesty, I I, you know, I I can’t think of living anywhere else. It’s, you know, it it’s a nice area. Everything’s nearby, and all that sort of stuff. So yeah, anyway, I just like it. And I created this, podcast because, you know, I I just wanted it to be something where, locals can find what’s happening in the area rather than having a look at at, you know, four, five, six, whatever different, websites and and all that sort of stuff. So, yeah, just wanted some you know, this is a community driven blog. This is a community driven podcast, and I just wanted something where, you know, it it is something for the community. So, you know, we can see once everything sort of falls in place and get it gets more into the routine, there’ll be events up on the website and all that sort of stuff.
Starting to do, reviews of businesses. Melbourne Safety Services was the first one that I talked about last week. And this one actually, you know what? I I might kick it off now and give, Italia Pizza a bit of a plug. There at the stables, shopping center. Actually, ordered from them over the weekend, and I must say that the pizzas were spectacular. It was, yeah, one of those things is that yep. You know what? Just going back a little bit. You know, just something that occurred during the day. You know what? I feel like pizza. This was a Saturday, earlier in the day and all that sort of stuff, and then sort of came time to it and said, you know what?
Let’s order pizza. So, you know, gave him a call and, got pizza from him. And I yeah. Anyway, if you can order from them, I would recommend doing it early because they do get very busy. It is a very popular pizza place. And once you’ve had one of the pieces, then you can understand why. But, yeah, head on over to, Italia Pizza. Or if you’re online, and I’ll include this in the show notes as well, ItaliaPizza.com.au. You can order online. It’s through menu log or give them a call and say, hey. You know, this is what I’m after. So yeah. It it you know, it’s one of those things I recommend that you go and go and check it out.
What else you see? So, having a Mill Park Saint Grange College is doing middle year campus tours. Tours begin from the general office at 09:30. You can go and do a booking from alright. Try booking.com. I will include a link to this in the show notes. By the looks of it, it’s done every Wednesday, up until the July 2. I’d say, yeah, that’s just, it is one of the local schools, the high school. The The Middle East campus is the one that’s, let’s say, up behind the stable stable shopping center, for that. So, yeah, do, you know, recommend if you’ve got kids that are coming up, just go and check it out, see what it’s like, go for a bit of a tour, for mid to your campus. And then, it’s it’s one of those high schools that there’s seven, eight, nine in the middle years, ten, eleven, and 12 at the senior campus. The senior campus is up near Plenty Valley Shops.
On the name of the street escapes me. But, you know, you head up the back of Plenty Valley Shops, check a right, hit the roundabout, turn it. You’ll see it on the roundabout on the left hand side. What roundabout I’m talking about, I know where it is, and, residents may know, and someone can tell me where it is. But, anyway, so yes. What else is it? Now I I did, say last week I was going to, reach out to, the suspended counselor, Aiden McLendon, and have a chat to him. But it’s something that, I decided not to more because I don’t want this to descend into a a political podcast. I don’t wanna talk about politics, in this podcast.
I will be possibly later on creating another one where I can have a rant and all that sort of political stuff. But, you know, this is more for, you know, community information and what’s happening in the community, what’s going on, and getting, you know, getting the the community together and to, steal a line from, the guys at the No Agenda podcast, No Agenda Show No Agenda Show. Connection is protection. And this is what I wanna be doing with this podcast is connecting everyone, you know, as as the community that we are. And it’s politics is one of those things where we you you don’t really talk about it because there’s nothing to say you know, there’s no guarantee that the person you’re talking to is going to be supporting those views as well. So it’s it’s one of those things where people get passionate about it, and, you know, it it has the potential to, you know, cause arguments. So I’d look. You know? I’d like this just to be a community focused one. And, yes, I understand the suspension of a councillor from the Whittlesea Council is something that the community should be worried about and concerned about.
So I’m just going to make the the comment about it, and, you know, how people deal with that information, process that information, and and use that information is entirely up to them. You know, this is about more, as I said, more about getting the community together rather than dividing the community down politics. And, you know, I am fully aware after talking to people in the neighborhood that mister McClendon is a bit of a a divisive, person. Some support what he does. Some don’t. And, you know, it it’s one of those things is that, yeah, just so he he decided not to do it. And, you know, as I said, I might kick off a a political podcast later on, where I’ll have a discussion with him about that sort of stuff. But in the meantime, this is all just about Mill Park, you know, about what’s going on. And, you know, let’s not have, you know, the grandstanding. And I don’t really wanna talk to the local or federal member.
There’s an election going on, so we may have another one, a different one. We may not. Who knows? But, you know, it’s the thing is that you you talk to, you know, these politicians, and they are their career politicians, and they will just push party lines and agendas so that, oh, we’re doing this and and we’re doing that, and only we can do this and only we can do that. And, you know, it’s that’s not what I’m interested in, and that’s not what I want this to be. What I wanna hear from politicians is how you’re or what you’re doing to actually help this area.
And don’t turn around and say, oh, you know, government x, y, and zed has done this and and brought this out, which, you know, that’s for me, that’s a bit of bollocks and, bit of gaslighting there. So yeah. So but anyway, as I said, at this point in time, it’s not going to be political. I wanna build a community, for this podcast and even, within the the wider Mill Park community, even outside of the podcast and the blog and everything like that. So this this it it’s going to be more of a a political free space, for that sort of stuff. So we’re here. But, anyway, moving right along.
What’s coming up next? What’s happening in Mill Park over the next week or so? Actually, something to to book into. If we have a look at the, Plenty Ranges Arts And Convention Center, so prac. I know some Ferries Boulevard. I think it’s called South Morang. There is a Fleetwood Mac cover band, running in the shadows. They’re going when are they playing out there? July 5. So you’ve got a bit of time. I will include a link to that in the show notes for that one. It is an 8PM show, Saturday, July 5. Tickets are $65 for adults, 55 concession, 45 children.
That is 17 and under. Group tickets, $52 for 10 or more. All that sort of good stuff. So as I said, put a link to this in the show notes. What else is happening? Tuesday night, Tuesday afternoon, Tuesday evening, for those who are, a little bit more fitter. And I might be joining this one in a couple of weeks’ time, getting back into writing. Brooke myself. What did I buy myself? An Avanti something or not. I can’t remember what it was. Because I I had an old, Avanti competitor, and it it had been, you know, probably been 20.
Montari. That the did I get the Montari? Sorry. I’m just having a look at the Ivanti website now. Yeah. It was the m Montari m s three, because I had no competitor, an Ivanti competitor. As I said, you know, it’s probably about 20 years old now. Used to ride a lot in my younger days, and sort of life got in the way and stopped. You know, I bought myself a Monterey competitor, just to get back into it. And, you know, just to yeah. As I said, get back into it, so I might be heading out to, these, events later on. So going back to that, PGMTB club, this is the Plenty Gorge mountain bike, MTB.
They are doing a ride on Tuesday night, 06:45 to 09:15 approximately. So they’re heading off from Goldsworthy Lane in Plenty, Tuesday night bike ride from the tanker Goldsworthy Lane. According to this, just reading that, this mountain bike ride is more technical and faster version of the Sunday social ride and is not available to foundation level or beginner riders. So that means that, you know, it’s something that, you know, you know, reasonable level of fitness and, compatibility, for motor, for mountain bikes. It does say that you will need a good light and battery setup. Ideally, you light in your helmet and one in your handlebar. Arrive 06:30PM for 06:45PM departure.
Encouraged to become a member of Ogg Cycling with plenty of gorge mountain bike club, which gives you third party. I’ll include all the link to all these sort of stuff in the show notes as well. Sunday, the twenty seventh oh, that was today. Yesterday, there was a ride at Smith Scully’s in Eltham. The next one coming up is the May 11. Oh, that’s Mother’s Day, so I’m not sure if you’re gonna be able to get out on that one. And then the, next one after that is the June 22, Yellowgum Park in Diamond Creek. But, yeah, you know, worthwhile checking it out.
As I said, it’s something I might be getting into later on. Admittedly, at the moment, my bike’s only set up for, day trips, for that one. Another one on the this is actually something to put in the calendar. Rewind eighties band, rocks a commercial hotel, South Morang. So that’s one up the road from most of us. 13 Gorge Road, South Morang. Tenth Of May from 8PM. It’s, rewind eighties band, rocks a commercial. So rewind eighties band. That’s the name of it. They’re doing all the different songs. Yes. I, rewind eighties. So but, yeah, have a look at that. There’ll be tracks from David Bowie, Madoona, Wham, INXS Queen, all that sort of good stuff from the eighties.
It’s something worthwhile checking out. And what else have we got? Local events. A couple of local events coming up. The plenty there are plenty regional library. It has it has it has they all didn’t pop up. Clicked a couple of links here to, you know, bring up there would be, something better. There we go. That’s it. So, today, Monday, April, there’s total story time from ten to eleven, and this is in Mill Park Library. It is a free event. Registration is required. Following that, from eleven to twelve, there is English con conversation cafe. So that’s if you English use your second language and you’d like to practice speaking, we’ve got a Monday knitting Monday knitting and sewing club.
It’s an afternoon kids car craft club. And then heading out on Tuesday, we’ve got preschool, toddler, all that sort of stuff again. There’s a from four till five, there’s a tinker time, Lego one. Oh, actually, event is full. Sorry. 12 places. There is already one on the waiting list. So, it looks like it’s a popular event. And then what else? That’s all we’ve got. We’re heading up into May. What is happening in the, we do see council area. We do see council is obviously exercise for older adults, coming up. That’s Monday twenty eighth. Mondays and Thursdays from, 09:30 to 10:15, so a bit of a forty five minute walk.
This is Thomastown. This one, there is one that a social exercise and walking football, one that is on Mondays. So the next one starts in a little bit time, ten to twelve, kicks off from the Mill Park Baseball Stadium in Red Leap Avenue. And there is a heap of other events, going back to golf as well, but I’ll include all of this in the show notes. So check out your events, what’s going on in the neighborhood. So what else? I think it’s been a bit of a I wouldn’t say quite, but more of a, well, no. Not quite. Just yeah. Nothing seems to have happened for the last week. It could be because it’s, just returned school holidays, and, it was a short week for people. I know kids going back to school, they went back for three days and off for three days.
So I think everything will kick off in earnest from tomorrow to tomorrow today. Monday today. Days blur into one. So yeah. So it’ll kick off from there, and we’ll see what goes on. So wanted to what did I wanna talk about? This one. Mentioned at the start of the show that this is a a community, community going to be a community resource. And as part of that, I’m, you know, not going to take advertising or sponsorship or anything like that, from that because I do wanna be able to honestly talk about things. And, you know, if, let’s say, for argument’s sake, I hit the local council on and said, hey. You know? Give me some sponsorship, and and, you know, I’ll plug this.
You know? If if I do that, then I can’t be critical of of the wastage or how, you know, the the budget is something that’s probably not something that should be put forward and things like that. Same as if, you know, Acme Pizzas, which is a fake business, so I’m just using that as an example, only because I did talk about Italian pizza at the start. So let’s say Acme Pizza turned around and and said, oh, you know what? I’ll sponsor you. But, you know, I’d have to talk about their pizzas and then couldn’t talk about any other ones because they wouldn’t let me advertise competitors on the show or talk about competitors on the show, all that sort of stuff. So, this is that. So how how would this survive?
The podcast and blog will survive by adopting the value for value model, as introduced to me by, Adam Carey and John C. Dvorak of the No Agenda Show. And what that means is that if you get value from this podcast or the blog or anything related to that, all I ask from you is that you return that value back to me. You can do that in one of in one of three ways, time, talent, or treasure. Time talking to people about this, giving me an update on things that are happening if I’ve missed it because, I do have real world commitments and things like that. So sometimes I may miss things. Sometimes I may not.
Something might slip through. There might be something that’s coming up that’s not really advertised that much. You know, this is, you know, the the time you can tell me. So, do that. You hit chunk send an email to notes@millpark.blog, and then, you know, just include in the subject line, something show or comments or or whatever it is. The other t is talent, that is either helping me spruce up the website, a bit more of a spiffiness with a podcasting or anything like that, and then finally with Treasure. So, you know, if you feel like donating, feel free to.
There’s no compulsion, no requirement to nothing’s gonna be hidden behind paywalls where you’ve gotta be a member to see this. You could be all that sort of stuff. Everything is going to be free. Everything is premium content, because as I said, this is going to be a resource for those in the Mill Park community. But, anyway, you can find out more about the whole value for value thing by heading over to millpark.blog forward slash v letter letter, the number four, and v again, so v for v, which is value for value, for that one. So, anyway, I think I might wrap this one up.
Let me know what your things are, what your things are, what your thoughts are, anything you got coming up and all that sort of stuff. As I said, notes at millpark.blog. We’ll include you some of your comments or if you’ve got any questions or anything like that, let me know, and, we’ll we’ll see what happens in the next one. If you see me wandering around, the stables or plenty value or something like that, feel free to tap me on the shoulder and say hello. Ideally, do it from the front. Don’t come up behind me and tap me on the shoulder because, hey.
You know what? You you know, you might get a few words or or anything like that. But that one. So, yeah, as I said, you know, if you see me sticking it out, wave. If I don’t see you, don’t take it the wrong way. I’ve just could have been distracted with my head somewhere else, thinking home safe place, and all that sort of stuff. But, yeah, feel free to stop, you know, call me up, say hello. I I’m usually wandering around the stables couple of days a week, collecting my mail, picking up stuff from all these, and all that sort of stuff. So but, anyway, as I said, this is a resource for you guys.
Let me know what you think. So, anyway, thank you for listening, and, I look forward to having you join me on episode six next Monday. So till then, bye for now.
