Connecting Mill Park: A New Podcast Journey Begins

Welcome to the inaugural episode of the Mill Park Podcast! I’m Cameron, a resident of Mill Park for nearly five years, and I’m thrilled to launch this podcast as a central hub for all things happening in our vibrant community. Tired of scouring multiple websites and social media pages to stay updated, I decided to create a one-stop source for news, events, and activities in Mill Park and its surrounding areas, including Bundoora and South Morang.

In this episode, I introduce the podcast’s mission: to keep you informed about local happenings, from community events and school activities to updates from local businesses and sports clubs. Whether it’s the latest at the Stables Shopping Centre or events at the River Glen Shops, this podcast aims to cover it all. I’ll be sharing insights on everything from church gatherings to footy matches, ensuring you never miss out on what’s important in our community.

This podcast will be released weekly, every Sunday evening, so you can catch up on the latest news at your convenience. If you have any events or news you’d like to share, feel free to email me at notes@millpark.blog by Sunday morning for inclusion in the week’s episode.

The Mill Park Podcast is a free resource for everyone in the area, operating on a value-for-value model inspired by the No Agenda podcast. If you find value in what we do, you can support us through time, talent, or treasure—whether it’s spreading the word, contributing your skills, or donating financially.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I look forward to bringing you more updates and insights in Episode 1 next Sunday night. Until then, take care and stay connected with your community!

[00:00:01] Cameron:

Good evening, Mill Park. And thank you for joining me here in this the episode 0 of the Mill Park podcast. Now I’ve created this episode so, you know, you have an idea of of what this podcast is about, why I started it, and everything like that. So before we get into that, let me say hello to you. My name is Cameron, Mill Park resident for about nearly 5 years now. And I’ve, you know, started this podcast because I, you know, I want one spot where I can find out what is happening in the area rather than, you know, going to 15 different websites. You know, you gotta have a look at the Whittlesea Council website or you have a look on the, you know, is it Mill Park South Morang and all that sort of stuff, Facebook group, or you’ve gotta go on this other website or you gotta go on this other website.

And, you know, that was starting to to bug me to the point of, you know, I just wanna find out what’s happening in Moore Park. Just go there and say, yep. That’s it. This is what I wanna do. This is what’s going on. So what I thought, well, you know, I can’t keep complaining about things. And, you know, if I don’t offer a solution, then I’m part of the problem. And, bugger it. It’s a new year. Let’s start it off, 2025 and see how it goes. So here we are. I, you know, I’ll be listing, you know, or making mention of everything that I become aware of that’s happening in the park area.

There may be some overlap into, Bandura or South Morang. Though this is just primarily for, for the for the Mill Park region. There’s a bit of overlap there because it’s it’s something worthwhile going to, or, you know, or being aware of. So what do we have in the area? Well, for those who don’t know, we have the stable shopping center. There’s Woolies and, what else is there? There’s a takeaway pizza heart. There’s a post office. There’s newsagents. It seems to be having a bit of a bad trial lately, if you have a look at the outside of it. There’s a hot bread kitchen in the stables. There’s barbers.

There’s lawyers, florists at the back, a couple of coffee shops, all sorts of stuff. So, you know, this is the thing now. That being said, it’s not just going to be stables focused. You know, I’ll make mention of anything that’s going on in the area, even the way up to I don’t know. I don’t know what you could call the, what is it? The River Glen Shops. Is that still part of Mill Park, or is that South Morang? But I you know what? It’s on the border, so let’s call it Mill Park, for that. So and then where else do we get? All the way out to 711, Town Charles Road.

Anything down McKinney’s Road. I’m not sure because I don’t normally go down that part of the world. But then that’s probably Bandura too. So yeah. So, anyway, that being said, this is what I’m gonna be talking about if things going on the Mill Park area. Not not just not just, you know, any shops and things like that, any community groups, what the churches are doing, what the school’s doing, all that sort of stuff. And even, my wander down to the oval and see what the, the footy clubs and all that. So in cricket teams are doing. Say yourself. Anyway, that that’s what it’s about.

I plan to release one of these pretty much every Sunday evening. It’ll be a weekly podcast, so that Sunday evening, you can sit down, listen to it, or listen to it first thing Monday morning, and say, oh, you know what? This is coming up during the week. So, you know, I might do that. So but going back to that, I’m yeah. As I said, every Sunday, if you’ve got anything that you want, mentioned about that, please send an email to notes at millpark.blog. And I will do my best to include it in Sunday’s podcast. Now cut off on that. Obviously, Sunday morning, can’t send me something Sunday afternoon, and, you know, I might be able to fit it in. I might not. It just depends on how much other stuff is going on.

But no. That’s it. So what else is there? This is gonna be, you know, a free podcast for everyone. I’m not gonna hide anything, behind paywalls or subscriber only or premium content or anything like that, because this is solely for the people of Mill Park area. If you wanna support the show, head over to support. We do the value per value model. Now that’s something that I discovered through, Adam Carey and John C. Dvorak through the No Agenda podcast, bit of a plug there for them. So, you know, this is value for value on. No. This is something I’m doing there for the community. If the community doesn’t see value in it, well, I that’s fine. You know, you how do they do it? Value for value. It’s home, talent, or treasure. You can if you get value out of this, you can contribute whatever time you feel like, whether it’s just telling other people about podcast or anything like that.

Take time to send me an email to say, hey. You know, can you include this? What I saw is that time, talent, talent. Talent could be updating the artwork on this. It could be helping me with mixing. It could be anything like that. And, obviously, there’s a treasure beat if you feel like donating some hard earned cash to to the podcast. But, you know, that’s entirely up to you. I’m not gonna stop doing it. As I said, this is something that is a resource for the area and all that sort of stuff. So, anyway, I think I’ve been waffled about enough for this one. So thank you for joining me here on this, episode 0. And, look forward to having you join me on episode 1 next Sunday night.

So till then, bye for now.
